Annotation
The relevance of the study is due to two interrelated factors. On the one hand, the work of Natalie Sarrot, despite its popularity as a key phenomenon of the «New Novel», remains insufficiently deeply analyzed in terms of linguistic mechanisms of fixation of preverbal mental processes, which is confirmed by the existing works of L. A. Chernitskaya (1995), A. G. Vishnyakov (2011), E. B. Voronina (2012). On the other hand, although the concept of «tropisms» has repeatedly been the subject of analysis in domestic and foreign works, these studies mainly state its presence as a poetical feature of Sarrot’s prose, without offering a systematic differentiation between the philosophical self-description of the method by the writer and its specific textual implementation. The methodological basis of the research was the hermeneutic method, which made it possible to analyze the works of the writer and identify the mechanisms of fixation of preverbal mental processes and their artistic representation. The article reveals the differences between Sarrot’s «tropisms» and traditional literary techniques, as well as the role of natural (zoomorphic, botanical, geological) meta-phors in visualizing subconscious states. Further analysis concerns the specifics of «tropisms» as a key element of Sarrot’s poetics, their influence on the structure of the literary text and the interaction of the text with the reader. The results of the study allow for a new interpretation of the author’s poetics and metaphorical thinking, clarify her contribution to the development of a new type of literary psychologism based on the fixation of preverbal states and deconstruction of the character. The presented materials complement the understanding of the basic artistic principles of Natalie Sarrot and offer new approaches to the analysis of her «tropisms» in the context of literary and cultural processes of the 20th century, which emphasizes the theoretical and practical significance of the research.
