Annotation

The paper deals with the issue of self-presentation strategy in female narrative within the framework of literary communication. The relevance of the study is predetermined by the need to examine the female narrator’s role in fiction within the framework of German and Russian linguistic cultures. It seems possible to consider the linguistic means used by the narrator when presenting their own images in social, cultural and gender aspects. The article aims at identifying the tactics that constitute German and Russian narrator’s self-presentation strategy. The major research methods applied were linguistic modeling, linguistic and cultural analysis and interpretation. The research sampling included fiction texts ranged from the early 21st century to the present day by German and Russian female literary prize winners for unique style, topicality and innovation. The article reveals that self-presentation strategy presents the narrator as a persona exemplifying their character traits, attitudes and professional qualities. The fundamental temporary forms of the strategy are presence and self-referential statements, while it is implemented via the tactics of reflection, opposition, identification (comparison) applied to the narrative of both linguistic cultures’ representatives. The distinctive means of recognition, namely the indicators for self-presentation strategy are the pronouns «wir – we», «ich – I», modal words, introductory words, comparisons, evaluative adjectives, etc. The research sources also encourage a supposition that literary communication features in female narrative are manifested in the German linguistic and cultural space via emphasizing interpersonal relationships between different generations, as well as focusing on cultural and moral values; while in the Russian linguistic space through the elineating topics related to overcoming physical and moral challenges, translating cultural values to next generations and searching for the inner causes of current crisis situations.
