Annotation

The article aims at analyzing structural and metalinguistic features of the Paraguayan newspaper press of the XIX century on the material of the newspaper Cabichuí. The relevance of the study is due to the fact that in Russian philology, Paraguayan trench newspapers have not yet become research material. In addition, the newspaper Cabichuí considered by the author is a vivid example of the heyday of Paraguayan bilingual journalism. The article is aimed at revealing the leading linguistic and extralinguistic tools used in the texts of bilingual newspapers and taking into account the characteristics of the addressee of the media message. The leading method in the study was the analysis of the content and structure of the newspaper text, semantic, pragmatic and discursive analysis. The article reveals the structural features of a bilingual newspaper, due to the clear formulation of the stable peritext of the publication and its editorial identity. In addition, the author comes to the conclusion that the success of the newspaper Cabichuí is also associated with the polyfunctionality of the texts published in it and the degree of their creolization. The results presented in the article allow us to judge the special degree of integrativity of the newspaper Cabichuí, which allowed the publication to form a loyal audience and indirectly influence the formation of the Paraguayan national identity. It, in turn, is largely based on opposing itself to «enemies», including in linguistic terms — thanks to the use of the language of the local autochthonous Guarani people and the contact language of Jopará (Yopará).
