OBSOLETE RUSSISMS IN THE MODERN BELARUSIAN LITERARY LANGUAGE

Annotation

The relevance of this article lies in studying the obsolete Russisms which helps to further comprehend the general laws of the modern Belarusian language development, explains some of processes of the national language formation, and reveals the dynamics of the its vocabulary evolution. The goal of the article is to identify the features of obsolete Russisms adaptation in the modern Belarusian language, to provide their lexical and semantic characteristics, to study the lexicographic display of some obsolete Russisms. The material of the study comprises obsolete borrowings from the Russian language, identified in the dictionaries of the Belarusian language of the 20th – early 21st centuries. The article reveals the lexical and semantic features of obsolete Russisms. There are patterns of them recorded in the modern Belarusian language dictionaries provided. It is noted that Belarusian linguistics emphasizes the different views on the status of the marks obs. and hist. It was concluded that to designate obsolete vocabulary (including historicisms as its variety), it is enough to use the mark obs. (obsolete), while marking the corresponding chronological characteristic of the word in the definition. The author suggests options for further presenting specific obsolete Russisms in the Belarusian language dictionaries.
