Annotation

The article regards the processes of launching and promoting one of the popular science magazines «Kommersant Nauka». The relevance of the study is due to the increased potential of popular science journals in the field of scientific enlightenment of young people in order to attract qualified staff to the field of science and increase the prestige of scientific activity. In this regard, the article focuses on the issue of distinguishing between scientific and popular science genres, analyzes the text of the journal’s mission, establishes the addresser and addressee (target audience) links, defines the features of their activities. There is an attempt made to track the qualitative and quantitative changes in the rubrication of the magazine. The authors analyze the content of the headings for their correlation with the mission of the popular science magazine. The article reveals the main thematic focus of the articles, defines the range of scientific areas reflected in the journal headings. The empirical material comprises the 2011 and 2014–2022 editions of the «Kommersant Nauka» journal. The purpose of the study is achieved by applying the methods of deductive and inductive logical analysis, the method of lexico-semantic analysis, quantitative and descriptive methods, using the tools of corpus linguistics, namely, compiling a list of keywords based on their statistically significant frequency using the Istio online SEO text analysis program. The findings allow us to conclude that a popular science magazine, as a special type of periodicals, is an effective tool for educational activities.
