Annotation
The paper is dedicated to one of the important and actual problems of the theory and practice of translation, connected with the correspondence of the source and target text and the limit of its deviation from the original. The aim of the present work is to detect the cases that illustrate the divergence of the translator from some formal and substantiate sides of original and analysis of its reasons, both objective (proper linguistic moments determined by the difference of the source and target language systems, cultural factors, demands of the censorship, etc.) and subjective ones (the aim of the translation, the wish of the customer, and so on). The research material is represented with the literary texts in wide sense. It is mentioned that, from one hand, the notion of such texts wasnʼt the same in different times (cf.: the status of philosophical, historical and other works in antiquity), whereas, on the other hand, the sacred texts, first of all the Holy Writ canon may be treated as a separate type combining the features both of the literary and special translation. During the investigation the theoretical methods of analysis, synthesis and the generalization were
used, as well as a special method of philological study of the sources and their comparison. The conclusions may be used in further development of the theory and practice of translation.
The result of the investigation is the confirmation of the necessity to clarify the notion of the translation in pure sense and its delimitation from other types of interlingual/intercultural communication and critical estimation of the scopos theory with its absolutization of the customer`s role.
