Annotation

The relevance of this study stems from the digital transformation of the economy, with its increasing demand for cross-disciplinary professionals who possess both linguistic expertise and technical competencies. In today’s professional landscape, translators should be able to create, adapt, and systematize technical documentation, effectively merging translation and technical writing functions. Despite the established professional standards, in Russia, systematic training for such specialists remains underdeveloped. The article proposes an integrative competency-based model for developing technical writing competencies among translation students of engineering universities. The study employs four pedagogical approaches, which are: integrative, competency-based, discursive, and learner-centered activity-based approaches. They are aimed to enable effective integration of linguistic, translational, and technological training components. The research methods incorporate automated job market analysis, regulatory documents content analysis, data modeling and visualization. The authors propose a five-component model comprising conceptual framework, learning objectives, content structure, outcomes evaluation, and resources provision. By integrating core and supplementary curricula through contemporary pedagogical technologies, the model develops four interdisciplinary competencies. Results specify competencies’ components, developmental progression levels, and the aligned assessment tools. The findings demonstrate both theoretical value and practical applicability of the model in preparing future engineering and linguistics professionals for digital workplace environments. The model’s implementation in the engineering university education framework is projected to reduce technical documentation errors while enhancing technological adaptability. Future research will focus on model validation and strategic collaboration with IT industry partners.
