Annotation
The article addresses the topical problem of linguaxiological marking of the professional pedagogical community in the sphere of stylised interpersonal communication.
The aim of the study is to identify the mechanisms involved in constructing the linguaxiological portrait of a professional group, namely school teachers, in English drama discourse. Discourse-axiological interpretation was chosen as a research tool, which implies the combined use of the methods of value-evaluation analysis and discourse analysis together with the method of stylistic analysis of communicative fragments. Based on the results of the study of ten plays by English playwrights of the XXI century that reflect the image of a school teacher, a new concept of ‘linguaxiological portrait of a pedagogue as a representative of a professional community’ is presented, the principles of its discourse manifestation are outlined, the key structural and content components are mapped. The key characteristics of the educator’s value-evaluation
paradigm, which form the core of the linguaxiological portrait, are also defined. It is revealed that the linguaxiological portrait of a pedagogue is a multidimensional
complex construct reflecting personal speech specificity in expressing positive and negative evaluative attitudes, professionally conditioned value dominants, as well as the actual evaluation of a teacher in the contemporary linguocultural community. It is proved that within the studied fragment of drama discourse the aspects of professional linguo-axiosphere are most vividly manifested in the speech interaction of a teacher with both pupils and pupils’ relatives. It has been found that the evaluative
utterances of pedagogues systematically manifest the following value dominants: ability to motivate pupils, support of their aspirations and achievements, confidence in their strengths and abilities. Social opinion about teachers is positive and is mainly formed by the parental community, which also finds its verbal labelling within the drama discourse space.
