Annotation
The paper researches into phraseological units (PhU) representing concept «friend» in Russian, English and German from the cognitive perspective. These PhU are widely
spread in the phraseological thesaurus of English, German and Russian languages and are axiologically charged. The empirical base was built on the data taken from modern Russian, English and German dictionaries, the text corpora also served as the material of the research. The authors analyze the cognitive models of the given phraseological units, the axiological shift in the meanings of Russian, English and German phraseologisms with the concept «friend» is taken into account.
The methods applied in the research are cognitive modeling, discourse analysis and elements of comparative analysis. The research started with the analysis of the PhU in modern lexicographic sources: their semantics, and cognitive models are constructed, the first one being subject-oriented, the second model is object-oriented, and, finally, situation-oriented models.
Then the utterances containing the phraseological units conceptualizing friendship were collected from the Russian, English and German corpora. The research revealed specifics of PhU when used in modern fiction and media sources aiming to single out phraseological units actively applied in the Russian, English and German languages; and correspondingly, phraseological units which for some reason or other are not used by modern and classical authors. The data collected enabled the authors to objectively assess the axiological capacity of the concept «friend».
