Annotation

The article analyzes Boris L. Pasternak’s poem «On the Steamboat» aiming to identify elements going back to the poetics of symbolism and futurism in its artistic universe. The latter were prompted by B. Pasternak, who tried to find his place in the modern literary routine, preferring one of leading literary trends (symbolism or futurism) while working on his second poetry collection, which included the poem «On the Steamboat». The aspiring poet interpreted the experience of contemporary writers, which, of course, was reflected in his own texts, including the poem «On the steamer». Subsequently, Pasternak added this poem to his collected works, though in a slightly modified form, which testifies to its special significance. Additionally, the article uses a letter addressed by Pasternak to his father — Leonid O. Pasternak, artist. The letter features the poet trying to formulate his own literary credo, as well as his attitude to such global axiological categories as love and life purpose.
