Annotation

The article considers the role of metaphorical word usage in French on-line news sheets within political mediarhetoric, the new area of research to the investigation of political communication proposed and implemented by the author. It is mentioned that political mediarhetoric is constituted on the basis of key assumptions of classical rhetoric, media linguistics and media stylistics. It is attempted to illustrate that by means of such figurative figures of speech as metaphors, the French journalists manage to model electors’ consciousness. The French language units that are subjected to rhetorical analysis were extracted from the outstanding French periodicals representing so-called left and right wings on the French political stage such as Le Figaro and Libération. The author attempts to envisage the role of the metaphorization process in contemporary French political communication and to draw attention to the fact that by linguistic usage of figurality in the language of the French newspapers the contemporary political framework could be revealed. By the conducted analysis it is determined that metaphors represent the immanence of French political mediarhetoric. The research is focused on up-to-date extracted language units therefore it seems possible to include the examples mentioned in the article in such option course as contrastive phraseology while teaching the French language at Universities to students of philology and future international journalists.
