Annotation

The paper addresses the issue how to boost linguistic and cultural competence in advanced-level Russian students of foreign languages through the study of core English grammatical categories. The authors analyze explicit and implicit means of expressing negation in English. The paper emphasizes the value of opting for various negative constructions in both professional training for aspiring philologists and effective cross-cultural communication. It presents a holistic methodological framework for enhancing linguistic and cultural skills along with understanding cultural background, analysis of pragmatic functions, conditioned connotations and studying language units with negative semantics. A key emphasis is placed on integrating linguistic and cultural knowledge into the syllabus to foster a deeper language awareness, intracultural and intercultural competences in undergraduate philology students. The research results validate the efficiency of the suggested approaches in classroom instruction and their significance for shaping prospective language professionals.
