Annotation

The study aims to model the conceptual and value system of the Renaissance author M. Montaigne regarding human, represented in aphorisms, considered as a type of precedent microtext. The theoretical approach to the aphorism consists in revealing the epistemological and axiological content in these linguistic units through the analysis of words-concepts expressing the philosophical and evaluative cognitive pragmatics of the aphorism. The corpus method of analysing the authentic text, as well as the method of content analysis of data from online citation databases are applied. It is revealed that the Renaissance aphorisms express the transformation of concepts and values perceptions of human and being, as well as the transition to a new anthropocentric humanistic paradigm, emphasising the value of critical thinking, individual reflexion, and socio-cultural diversity. In M. Montaigne’s aphorisms we have revealed the linguistic means of evaluative conceptualisation of the human in such directions, as human nature, interpersonal relations, cognitive abilities, attitude towards being, ontological human values. The result of the study is the description of the means of translation of the author’s conceptual-evaluative discourse aimed at modeling the system «human – world». It is concluded that human is the conceptual nucleus of Renaissance aphoristics, which formulates vital for our modern society answers to questions about the meaning of human existence.
