Annotation
The article discusses the importance of a systematic approach to developing research competences of future translators who are doing their BA. Analysis of the academic
curriculum devised at National Research University «MPEI» reveals ways of building students’ methodological awareness in the very first step of their professional training. The relevance of the undertaken study is prompted by demand for new ways of raising linguistic students’ research competencies with reliance on the integrative approach to professional training. The scientific novelty of the study is manifested in the idea that students’ research competence can be developed through integration of their methodological awareness and practical skills. Thus, the article discusses research competency defined as comprehensive knowledge about methods of scientific research and the ability to apply them, and puts emphasis on the importance of creating a system of concepts that reflect the main notions and categories of the theory of translation. The main research methods are observation, discussions with students, analysis of students’ scientific works aimed at revealing the most common difficulties of scientific research. The article aims to describe ways of developing methodological awareness of a future translator throughout the whole period of professional
training and with regard to all curriculum subjects. The study is based on the BA translation programme that was devised at the institute of Humanities of National Research University «Moscow Power Engineering Institute». As a result, a new aspect of integrative education, which is developing practical skills along with acquiring a system of concepts in the sphere of theoretical translation is described, the mediating role of the teacher in developing students’ scientific worldview is stressed.
