Annotation
The paper focuses on lingua-topological schematization of movement using basic Russian movement verbs idti and bezhat’ and their English counterparts. This research perspective is determined by the linguists’ general concernment with the key issues related to the semantics of pre-fixed verbs derivatives, through the lens of their correlation with their English compound verbs. The correlations are established via schematizing topology of the movement, represented by the couples of verbs in question, and comparing the typologies. At issue is also the need to support and develop digital translation engines through calculating the algorithm to be relied on in translating pre-fixed Russian verbs into English. The research objective is lingua-topological schematizing of movement with predicates denoting movement idti and bezhat’ in translation perspective. The tasks to attend to are as follows: generating empirical base to include pre-fixed Russian movement verbs, relating them to their English counterparts, and building up topological schemes for both. The methods to rely on start with generating the empirical base from dictionaries which is composed of pre-fixed Russian derivatives of verbs bezhat’ and idti, in their first meaning conveying physical movement. Their semantics is analyzed, the topological scheme is built, then they are translated into English and their English topology is generated, translation between two typologies to be established. Results are achieved when dictionary-based translations are related to practical RNC — generated translations to check and verify the suggested topologies. Analysis of other verbs of movement, as well as other languages can serve as a promising research vista.
