Annotation

The research regards the topical issue of the French language transformations detected on the continent of Africa to distinguish the features of its non-mainland formats. The study relies on the culture-oriented research approaches, objectives and concepts that belong to high-profile Russian scholars who regard various social and cultural contexts in terms of language, communication, cultural codes, symbols and other tools used to transmit identity, expertise and values. The synopsis of multiple studies in the sphere of African French (FPA) aided to define the major periods of language development as well as to provide grounds for the discrepancies in academic studies of its correlations with literary French. The author aims at describing the modern trends in African French dynamics with a special emphasis on the French language spoken in Cameroon (сamfranglais). The country is said to be Africa in miniature due to the variety of natural along with cultural and language layers. The study focuses on interference and hypergeneralization in African French (FPA); it also highlights the relevance of borrowings and neological processes. The author regards linguistic stigmatization while studying the academic sources and relying on personal empirical evidence. The findings reveal that while African French (FPA) develops, it prompts the standard French language to lose its position of cultural reference and the only language of education on the African continent. The article features original illustrations from modern literature and music pieces by popular African authors, from the Internet sources and accumulated by the author while gaining practical experience of teaching French and its African French varieties.
