Annotation
The article is devoted to the consideration of current problems of searching for optimal methodological approaches to foreign language training of students of non-linguistic universities, which is due to the ever-changing role of the subject «Foreign Language» in the system of higher professional education. In the theory and methodology of teaching foreign languages, a number of changes have occurred in recent years, concerning the development and implementation of new approaches, accompanied by processes of increasing integration of a foreign language and professional disciplines. However, the diversity of emerging approaches requires a comparative analysis and a detailed understanding of their similarities and differences with a possible unification (convergence) of general principles. The authors of the article turn to the analysis of such approaches in foreign language training of students that are focused on the integrative, interconnected nature of teaching a foreign language and professional — subject content (primarily contextual and subject-language integrated). The main provisions and principles of two approaches to professional linguodidactics are considered, which constitute the theoretical and methodological basis of the modern system of teaching foreign languages in a non-linguistic university. The authors substantiate the need for convergence of the basic principles of contextual and subject-language teaching, taking into account that these approaches are aimed at solving identical problems of foreign language training for students at non-linguistic universities, and also propose to expand the search and formulate additional principles of teaching caused by the demands of the time.
