Annotation

The article considers dialect phraseological units with the meaning of a qualitative assessment of a person’s character traits as negative or positive from the point of view of dialect speakers as representatives of traditional culture. The relevance of the study is due to the currently acute problem of preserving traditional cultural values, the national identity of the Russian language. The study is aimed at identifying the ethnocultural potential of the units in question in reflecting the socio-cultural features of the dialect picture of the world. The descriptive method, the method of contextual analysis, and the technique of quantitative counting were used in the work. The material for the analysis was related to the second half of the 20th – early 21st centuries statements of speakers of Russian dialects of the so-called late settlement (Middle Great Russian dialects in the Eastern group) of the Alatyr – Saransk – Penza – Atkarsk area, recorded in the «Phraseological Dictionary of Russian Dialects in the Territory of Mordovia» by R. V. Semenkova. The article systematizes and establishes priority character traits for assessing a person by speakers of a local variety of the national language. The preservation of ideas about negative and positive character traits of men and women in their determinacy by traditionally understood gender roles is substantiated. A correlation is proven between the assessment of a person’s character traits as negative or positive with the traditional national value system and mental attitudes that exist in the worldview of the speakers of the Russian dialects under consideration. The materials presented in the article allow us to conclude that the evaluative component of dialectal phraseological units reflects the value system and traditions of a patriarchal society in its national and cultural specifics.
