Annotation

There is an absence of textbooks approved by the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and a significant shortage of Japanese manuals for secondary schools. This poses difficulties for supplementary school education which aims to meet the needs of learners who are interested in Japanese culture, the Japanese language and understanding the Japanese mentality and the way of life. The article analyzes the Japanese language study guides and manuals used in Russian schools to determine compliance with the modern criteria of the new educational standards of the Russian Federation. This will form methodological framework for the development of a series of manuals for supplementary school education, grades 5–9.
