Annotation
The article examines the syntactic and cognitive potential of nouns naming natural objects: river, sea, ocean. The goal is to identify the syntactic features of models with a locative subject, a variety of manifestations of such meanings as the state and existence of objects. The features of the nominations and their syntactic embodiment are determined by the key nominative feature — the difference in the volume of natural objects, manifested in a variety of ways through metaphors and comparisons. metaphors represent the sign of volume as an undifferentiated multitude: a sea of books, a sea of smiles. The genitive metaphors with the «river» component emphasize the meanings of «movement», «fluidity» as the river of the immortal regiment, the river of life. The discrepancy in compatibility reveals the different role of concepts in the Russian language picture of the world. The concept of «river» has a rich cognitive potential and for a Russian person symbolizes the Motherland. The river and the sea differ in the way they empathize «the intensity of state manifestation», «uncontrollability », «danger to humans»: the river flows, rushes; the sea rages. There is a variety of river space manifestations accumulated in a large number of comparisons. Comparisons with the river standard are formed both on the basis of both central and peripheral features of the concept. It is in comparisons with sea and ocean natural objects, where the comparative constants reflecting the central features of the object are more common. The different case design of the locative subject river, sea, at the river, at the sea allows to present the space as dynamic or static in different ways, reveal various degrees of its activity. The article implements methods of conceptual, structural and semantic analyses, which encourages further considering the objects under study in the full scope of their semantic and syntactic properties.
