Annotation

The paper discusses the shift in the status of contemporary English that has differentiated into a number of varieties, or world Englishes, part of which have been standardized or are being standardized, which requires revisiting linguodidactic foundations of teaching the language. The objective of the research is to examine the goals of teaching English as an International Language (EIL) that combines world Englishes functioning as a lingua franca and tending to get standardized, and to compare these goals with those of English as a Foreign Language (EFL). The research results in responding to the questions asked in the framework of the World Englishes paradigm, which are very important for conceptualizing new linguodidactic solutions for teaching varieties of the pluricentric English language. The paper sums up by the possibility of considering this problem for other pluricentric languages in the near future.
