THE CATEGORY OF SPACE AND TIME IN O. MANDELSTAM’S AND K. VAGINOV’S NON-CLASSICAL PROSE OF 1920–1930S

Annotation

The article analyses Russian non-classical prose of the 1920s–1930s on the material of prose texts by O. Mandelstam and K. Vaginov. The article attempts to trace the features of non-classical prose poetics the latter being a single text based on the analysis and comparison of the spatio-temporal category of non-classical prose by Mandelstam and Vaginov. The course of the study called for hermeneutic, structural-semiotic (motivational analysis), comparative methods, and the method of intertextual research. The category of chronotope is revealed by Mandelstam and Vaginov from the point of view of subjectively experienced reality, therefore, the space and time signs reflected in the texts are artistically rethought, reviewed through the authors’ perspectives. The way the space-time category revealed in the prose of Mandelstam’s and Vaginov’s in concordance allows us to trace the dynamics of the chronotope in the non-classical prose: the time signs emerging in a specific space of non-classical prose act as a key, an algorithm for preserving and implementing the past and present in an inseparable connection with the eternity.
