Annotation
The issues of standardization and codification of the Italian language are invariably in the focus of researchers’ attention. Nevertheless, there is ambiguity concerning the time when the Italian language of informal communication appeared. This determines the relevance of the problem. The phenomena that are described in modern grammars as innovative are found in texts centuries old — in the comedies of Italian authors of the XVI century. That’s why it seems productive and interesting to study the features of their functioning in these texts and compare them with the modern language of informal communication. Due to the impossibility of conducting oral surveys or working with audio recordings of speech acts dating back in to the XVI century, the method of comparative analysis served as the leading research method: the sample of materials for the study included comedies by authors from the northern, central and southern regions — thus, dialectal geography was taken into account. That is extremely important for Italy. The article presents the contexts for implementing the secondary functions of some conjunctions, the frequent omission of the subjunctive mood in concessive and temporary subordinate clauses, a wide range of use of the particles ci and ne replacing prepositional constructions, the phenomenon of the polyfunctional conjunction che and some other phenomena. The examples presented in the article allow us to conclude that the Italian language at the current stage of development does not create innovative structures and phenomena but is rather undergoing a process of re-standardization while the prescriptive norm is becoming descriptive. The results of the study contribute to a more accurate and deeper understanding of the processes taking place in the Italian language at the present stage as well as to determining the trends typical of the language at the initial stages of development.
