Annotation

The article features the analysis of tendencies in Western European and American political journalism. The initial platform for studying the issue is the observed phenomenon of the transfer of accentuation in the description of socio-political processes and events from objective coverage of what is happening to the sphere of subjective perception and evaluation. The relevance of the issue is confirmed by the current oversaturation of the information field which is characterized by a fundamental divergence of assessments of the current political events commented on by representatives of different political parties and states. The article is focused on language techniques and principles of public opinion formation in political publicistic discourse which at present in characterized by appealing not to the fact of what is happening but to the emotional reaction of the speech (text) recipient. The main factor determining the angle of presentation of the material is the political and social orientation of the publication. By its nature the article is analytical and generalizing. The identified specific features of political publicistic discourse are exemplified by extracts taken from The Guardian and The New York Times which can be openly accessed. The article provides a classification of political vocabulary, systematizes opinion forming methods characteristic of the new social post-truth paradigm. The analysis of factual linguistic material is based on the use of the case study methodology
