Annotation
“Eastern Postmodernism” has not been fully discussed as a hypothetical literary concept since it was first put forward by Chinese and Russian scholars. Russian writer Victor Pelevin combines postmodern with oriental in a specific historical and cultural context in order to perform an experiment in postmodernist creativity focused on the East. Pelevin’s oriental postmodernist creativity goes beyond the criticism and research of the Russian literature, and makes positive contributions to updating the Eastern cognitive paradigm, establishing the principles of literary dialogue between East and West and enriching the means of expression of Russian literature. Pelevin’s phenomenon adds a new dimension to the Russian literature. Analyzing his works through the prism of Eastern postmodernism can potentially develop and enrich critical perception of Victor Pelevin in China and elsewhere in the world. The inclusiveness and universality of Pelevin’s creativity are typical of the creative practice of Eastern postmodernism. Pelevin’s literary thought, based on Eastern culture, opened a new field of research for Russian literature.
