Annotation

The article deals with the specificity and benefits of the functional shift method. The relevance of application of the method lies in an opportunity for a comprehensive study of English discourse sense space formation and factors influencing its transformation. The author defines the concept of sense, describes the algorithm for transforming discrete meanings into the integral sense, and analyses the process of understanding and interpretation of the discursive sense by communicants. The conclusion is drawn about the significance of the functional shift method, which allows characterizing the dynamics of English discourse sense formation and a set of factors leading to modification in its structure and functions.
