Annotation

The article considers the texts of American presidential televised debates viewed through the lens of translation. The research establishes the role of debates in pre-electoral discourse, elucidates the essence of the persuasive strategy employed by politicians, con- siders the key challenges the 2020 presidential debates present for translation and offers the ways to solve these problems. Keywords: pre-electoral discourse; televised debates; communicative functional approach; persuasiveness.
