Louis de Jocourt: Passionary Personality of the Enlightenment or “The slave for the Encyclopedia”?

Annotation

The article dwells on passionarity which is a sociocultural phenomenon of the 18th century interconnected with the personality of an encyclopedist indicating the role of scien- tific knowledge in the intellectual culture of society has changed. The views of the French enlightener Louis de Jocourt were identified, the extent of his scientific contribution to the formation of the French Encyclopedia was determined. The author also clarifies the defini- tion of passionality as the ability to be more alert enough to be be ready to complete a large amount of work in a short period of time. The latter allows you to achieve a significant goal and leads to a change in personality and society.
