Annotation

This article is devoted to the analysis of the discursive functions of quotations in media texts. The purpose of the article is to analyze the main discursive functions of intertextual inclusions within media texts. While undertaking research the authors used the methods of discourse analysis, linguocognitive analysis, linguistic analysis, and observation and description techniques. As a result, the article identifies and analyzes the linguistic and extralinguistic means of implementing the discursive functions of intertextual inclusions. The topicality of the research is determined by the important role of intertextual inclusions in the process of influencing the recipient’s consciousness. The discursive function of intertextual inclusions is defined as the dependence of the formal, semantic, cognitive, pragmatic, and contextual elements of the inclusion on the same components of the receiving text. The value of this research lies in its contribution to the interpretation of media discourse from the perspective of cognitive linguistics and pragmalinguistics. The results obtained during the research can be applied in courses on linguistics of text and discourse, stylistics, semantics. The conducted research has shown that intertextual inclusions play a significant role in the composition of modern media text. Despite the fact that the included and receiving texts are separated from each other by different discourses, genres, contexts, and are also significantly distant from each other in time and space, they nevertheless have a significant impact on the interpretation of the content of a modern media text, the formation or change of the reader’s opinion. The content of a modern media text also influences the reinterpretation of the events of the past, represented with the help of intertextual inclusion. Depending on the formal, semantic, cognitive, pragmatic, and contextual characteristics, intertextual inclusions, in our opinion, perform detailing, expressive, explanatory, and informative discursive functions in relation to the receiving media text.
