Annotation
The relevance of the research is due to the increasing requirements for the professional training of a foreign language teacher in the context of educational transformations. In this regard, the article discusses the problem of training a future teacher in the aspect of the formation of methodological skills. The author analyzes the existing textbooks on the methodology of teaching foreign languages, starting in 1929 to identify the requirements for the methodological training of a future teacher and his skills. The selection of educational publications was carried out in accordance with the stages of formation and development of the methodological course, where there is a clear change in the requirements for the professional and methodological training of foreign language teachers and the level of their methodological skills. The study revealed that methodical mastery as an independent component of a teacher’s professional competence has not always been the subject of targeted scientific analysis. Textbooks on foreign language teaching methods most often present algorithms for the formation of skills and the development of skills, methods, approaches and means of teaching foreign language communication. It is noted that the methodical skill of a teacher, as an important component of his professional competence, has attracted
the attention of scientists over the past two decades. The researchers presented the substantial essence and structure of methodical mastery, the personal characteristics of the future teacher. It is determined that methodical mastery is not a combination of all professionally significant knowledge, skills, qualities and work experience. It is an integrative new formation and includes methodological culture, personality traits, and competencies. Special attention is paid to such significant aspects of methodological mastery as methodological freedom, methodological thinking/consciousness, and the art of teaching, which should become the object of purposeful formation and development in the course of university training.
