Annotation
The article desribes the research conducted within the framework of translation studies and touches upon the issues of the translation process itself. The author summarizes and systematizes the models described earlier, developing them within the framework of the cognitive approach. Theoretical studies revealing possible ways to algorithmize the translation process, as well as the author`s self-reflection data, are the material for the research. The latter, along with the additional stages and sub-stages proposed by the author, constitutes an academic novelty. The purpose of the study is to present a more specified algorithm describing the translation process, which allows a researcher to enter the «black box» field. To achieve the goal, the author employs both theoretical methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization, classification, and the empirical one (reflection), which helps us examine the problem from different perspectives. The conclusions might be useful for the translation/editing process itself (as a professional or educational activity); they also might be of some value for specialists in related fields, for people interested in cognitive sciences or, for example, text theory. The 4-stage model of the translation process, the individual sub-stages of which affect the process of inaccessible to description transcoding (verbalization, horizon shift), is described as the result of the study. It could help facilitate the translation choice, create the necessary variability, etc. A further study with a focus on a more detailed description of the stages, or some modification of the algorithm for different types of translation and its empirical support is therefore suggested. Additional research is needed to better understand the use of the presented algorithm as the class activity.
