Annotation
The relevance of the study is due to the continuous expansion of the corpus of English neological vocabulary, the constant interest of scholars in this popular part of the neological discourse, the need for scientific interpretation of the display of collective experience in the analyzed layer of vocabulary. English neological units with temporal
semantics form an information picture of the world reflecting national and cultural features of worldview
and the system of value relations. The purpose of the article is to describe the use of neological units in English discourse from the point of view of the category of time. The scientific novelty of the work lies in the fact that for the first time in the framework of English neological discourse a study of the temporality of new words is carried out, as a result of which five thematic groups are distinguished (types of abstinence; holidays, days of the week, naming of months; economy and ecology; nomination of generations; human age). The material for the study was English neologisms with the meaning of time and with components denoting time obtained by the method of continuous sampling from electronic lexicographic sources. The analysis of these neologisms allowed us to consider their semantics in detail and identify their evaluative potential. The article notes that neological units reflect the peculiarities of the mentality of the English people expressed through components with temporal semantics. Time plays an exceptional role among the cognitive structures and processes involved in the perception of the real world. With its help the real world is transformed into a “projected world”, which is accessible to human consciousness. The work used such methods of scientific knowledge as literature analysis, generalization of experience, classification and deduction. The formation and existence of these neological units in the English discourse speaks of their significance in reflecting the national and cultural characteristics of worldview and the system of value relations.
