Annotation
The paper deals with the relevant, but still little-explored area of arksem@gmail.com image transference in translation. The material of the study is the famous children’s poem «Uncle Styopa» by S. V. Mikhalkov and its translations into English. The novelty and relevance of the work is determined by the fact that the poem, the main character of which is part of the Russian culture, has not yet been studied from the point of view of conveying the main image in translations into English. The author, aiming to answer the main question of correlation between the image of the main character in the original text and its two translations, uses some complex methodology based on different types of analysis: philological analysis, comparative analysis, classification and clustering, etc. Using a systematic and comprehensive approach to text analysis, the author comes to observations and conclusions that may be of some interest to specialists in the field of translation, literature, linguistics, as well as to a wide range of readers. As a result of the study, it was revealed that, despite the preservation of the central characteristics of the image (his stature, desire to help, kindness and total love), in both translations there are deviations from the image of the original. Thus, in the first translation there are quite significant deformations of the original image: such characteristics as the hero’s self-confidence, that he is not always respected by every adult, and a number of others are added. The author`s observations and conclusions can be used to find out some correlation, for example, with the reasons that determined these deformations.
