Annotation

The article explores linguistic and cultural features of the novel «Turbilhão» by Coelho Netto. The work attempts to identify and describe the ethnocultural component in the religious consciousness of the Brazilians. The focal point of the study is to analyse ethnolexical units used to describe different religious practices confessed in Brazil and containing an ethno-cultural component. The data was obtained from the novel «Turbilhão» by Henrique Maximiano Coelho Netto published in 1906. The book is considered one of the key works of the Brazilian literature of the first quarter of the XX century. It should be noted that the religious landscape of Brazil is quite diverse; it is based on both traditional Christian beliefs and the religious practices of minorities living in the country. Thus, the relevance of the article is due to the need to analyze the linguocultural specificity of the religious component in the Brazilian ethnoculture represented in the novel, as well as the lack of linguistic works devoted to the text of the novel. The aim of the study is to identify the layer of ethno-cultural vocabulary used in the description of various religious practices. The paper presents the list of ethnocultural lexical units with a religious component, its quantitative, qualitative and linguoculturological analysis, and also clarifies the term «ethnocultural lexical unit». Tge findings offer a classification of ethnocultural vocabulary in the Brazilian literary text of the early XX century.
