Annotation

The article regards the principles of analyzing and describing the language of a certain generation. The focus is on the empirical materials in Russian concerning the elderly generation (about 60 years and older). To enable it the changings in employing the term “sociolect” are declared (slang and jargons are excluded as a specific means of communication that make it possible to switch codes while some linguistic features typical of social groups are unconscious, thus, no switching is possible). The investigations in the field of Linguistics of generations are similar to describing languages of other social groups as regarded within the framework of gender linguistics, regional linguistics, professional linguistics etc. The program of on-going studies in this sphere: questionaries, content-analysis of texts etc — is declared.
